Kriitikot ovat käyttäneet JSn "rakkauskirjettä" Nuorella vaimolleen Sarah Ann Whitneylle todistuskappaleena JSn irstaudesta tai nuoriin naisiin suuntautuvasta rakkaudesta.
Mutta miten on millainen tuo kirje sitten on joka on niin ilmiantava. Voi sanoa että moni "kriitikko" on mennyt pahasti halpaan tuossa kirjeasiassa. Kirjettä on käsitelty aivan kuten muitakin vastustajiemme todistusmateriaalia. Tässä siis tuosta kirjeestä.
Kriitikko sivustoilla komeilee tämä Joseph Smithin kirjoittama rakkauskirje:
... the only thing to be careful of; is to find out when Emma comes then you cannot be safe, but when she is not here, there is the most perfect safty. ... Only be careful to escape observation, as much as possible, I know it is a heroick undertakeing; but so much the greater friendship, and the more Joy, when I see you I will tell you all my plans, I cannot write them on paper, burn this letter as soon as you read it; keep all locked up in your breasts, my life depends upon it. ... En nyt löydä sitä suomeksi... eli siis nopea summittainen käännös: on varottava Emmaa ja tuiltava kun Emma on poissa on turvallista olla JSn luona... ja ojn myös varottava että kukaa ei näe tuloa... JS myöntää että tuløeminen hänen luokseen on jopa sankarillista vaikeutensa takia, mutta se vain vahvistaa ystävyyttä. Sitten JS käskee polttamaan paperin ja säilyttämään sydämessä mitä siihen oli kirjoitettu. JS sanoo ettaä uskoo Emman olevan poissa sinä iltana joten (elä epäollistu tulemasta) tule tänä iltana, varaan illan sinulle...
Kuullostaa pahalta eikö totta! Emmaa piti varoa ja niin, hiipiä ettei kukaan nää ja ei voinut kirjoittaa kaikkia asioita paperille, kirje piti polttaa, piti säilyttää sydämessä ja ei saanut olla tulematta tänä iltana kun Emma oli poissa. Ehkä olisi hyvä huomata KENELLE JS kirjoittaa tämän "rakkauskirjeensä". Ihmettelen myös miksi juuri kutsumisen syy on poistettu antien tekstistä!? Mitä nähtävämmin Joseph haluisi keskustella Newellin ja Elisabethin kanssa kolmen päivän kuluttua suoritettavasta avioliiton sinetöimisestä.. sisi EI JS avioliiton vaan Newellin ja Elisabethin!
Miksi sitten oli tärkeätä että Emma oli poissa? Koska hän vastusti moniavioisuutta ja Newellillä oli jo vaimo ja Elisabeth oli uusi vaimo.
Jälleen kerran osoittautui anitväite perättömäkis panetteluksi. Miksi joku uskoo noita kriitikkojen paikkansa pitämättömiä sivuja?
